Rajpipla, Gujarat — In a dramatic turn of events in the Dediapada slap scandal, the court on Saturday rejected both the five-day police remand and bail application of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava, intensifying the political storm surrounding the case. The Narmada police, which sought Vasava’s remand, faced strong opposition from his legal team, who claimed the entire FIR was a politically motivated act.
“This remand plea was not about justice, but political vendetta,” said Vasava’s lawyer, Suresh Joshi. “We convinced the court that the remand was unnecessary, and the court agreed. But shockingly, bail was also denied.” Joshi further revealed that Section 109 of the IPC had been added to the FIR along with Section 307 (attempt to murder), but the defense succeeded in getting Section 109 dropped.
The case revolves around an alleged altercation between AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava and Dediapada Taluka Panchayat President Sanjay Vasava, during which a glass of water was reportedly thrown, though it caused no injury. “Even if their version is true, where is the attempt to murder?” questioned Gopal Italia, who appeared outside court to support Vasava. “This is nothing but a fabricated political trap.”
Tensions escalated outside the court premises when police refused to let Gopal Italia meet Chaitar Vasava, triggering a heated exchange. Italia accused the police of protecting BJP leaders while unfairly targeting AAP members. “Why has no action been taken against BJP MLA Gajendra despite a rape FIR?” he asked. “There are two sets of laws — one for BJP, another for AAP.”
In response to the growing unrest, Section 144 was imposed in Dediapada by the SDM and DYSP to prevent further clashes. Meanwhile, Chaitar Vasava was transferred from Rajpipla Jail to Vadodara Central Jail after a routine medical check-up at SSG Hospital. AAP workers gathered in large numbers at the hospital and court, shouting slogans of support: “Chaitar Vasava, you have progressed further… we are with you!”
Adding to the chaos, several lawyers were barred from entering the court premises. Advocate Akash Modi, who insisted he was on unrelated personal business, was also stopped, prompting a formal complaint to higher authorities. The tight security and denial of entry led to chants from lawyers — “Shame on BJP police!”
