Vadnagar : Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate two significant projects in Vadnagar on January 16: the state-of-the-art Vadnagar Sports Complex and the historic Prerna Sankul, both aimed at boosting sports infrastructure and educational heritage in the region. These projects, developed at a combined cost of over Rs. 146 crore, reflect the government’s commitment to promoting youth development and preserving cultural legacy.

Vadnagar Sports Complex: A Hub for Sporting Excellence

Built by the Sports Authority of Gujarat in Gandhinagar and inspired by the Department of Sports, Youth, and Cultural Activities, the Vadnagar Sports Complex represents a major milestone in Gujarat’s sports infrastructure. Constructed at a cost of Rs. 33.50 crore, the facility aims to cater to athletes at district, taluka, state, and national levels.

The complex boasts modern playing fields for badminton, table tennis, athletics, football, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, and judo. Coaching centre equipped to train players and nurture emerging talent. A 200-bed sports hostel (100 boys and 100 girls) built at a cost of Rs. 13.74 crore, featuring coach offices, rector’s quarters, recreation rooms, and more. The complex is equipped with advanced amenities such as Solar systems, RO systems, CCTV, and modern kitchen appliances.

District Sports Officer Viralbhai Chaudhary emphasized the complex’s potential to become a landmark for players, with an artificial grassy football field and spacious athletics ground as standout features.

Prerna Sankul: A Tribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Roots

The Prerna Sankul, developed at a cost of Rs. 72 crore, holds special significance as it is the site where Prime Minister Narendra Modi received his primary education. This historic school, being transformed by the Archaeological Survey of India, is envisioned as a model educational institution that blends heritage with modernity.

The Prerna program, aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, emphasizes value-based education. This initiative is the first of its kind globally, aiming to impart practical knowledge and cultural values.  Each batch comprises 20 children (10 boys and 10 girls) and 10 guardian teachers from 10 districts across India.

The Prerna Sankul project aims to make Vadnagar a pioneer in experiential and value-based education, setting a precedent for similar initiatives nationwide.

Preservation of Vadnagar’s Heritage

In addition to these infrastructure developments, Amit Shah will visit the Development of Precinct Facade project in Vadnagar. Under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Urban Development Scheme, this Rs. 41 crore initiative seeks to preserve and enhance Vadnagar’s rich heritage.

Key features of the project include:

Facade Restoration: Renovation of 145 buildings, with the restoration of 15 heritage structures already completed.

Urban Conservation Policy: Plans to protect Vadnagar’s historical and cultural essence while integrating modern urban infrastructure.

Infrastructure Development: Road construction, improved signage, pedestrian-friendly street furniture, and the conservation of heritage complexes.

These extensive developments aim to highlight Vadnagar’s historical significance, showcasing its monuments, archaeological sites, and cultural heritage. By blending restoration with modernization, the project seeks to position Vadnagar as a model for urban conservation.
