Ahmedabad | Gujarat — Gujarat’s local body election results have triggered dramatic political shifts across several towns, with new parties entering the state’s civic landscape while traditional strongholds witnessed unexpected turnarounds. The results highlight a rapidly evolving political map where regional and national players are testing new ground beyond their traditional bases.

A major development came from Bhuj, where the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen led by Asaduddin Owaisi made its entry by winning Ward No. 1 in the Bhuj Nagarpalika. The party secured victory for three of its candidates, signalling a growing footprint in Muslim-majority areas and denting the Congress vote base.

Another new entrant, the Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, also opened its account in Gujarat. The party’s candidate won Ward No. 4 in Kathlal Nagarpalika, marking its first civic success in the state. Political observers say the wins indicate Gujarat’s local politics is becoming more competitive and fragmented.

Meanwhile, the Rajpipla Nagarpalika delivered one of the most dramatic results. The BJP swept the municipality with 25 of 28 seats, while three seats went to independents. For the first time in the town’s history, Congress and AAP failed to win a single seat. A BJP leader described the outcome as “a historic mandate that reflects the party’s growing grassroots strength.”

In a contrasting result, the Dhanera Nagarpalika witnessed a major upset. Congress secured 20 of 24 seats, dealing a significant blow to the BJP in what had long been considered its stronghold. Party workers celebrated the victory as a sign of revival in smaller towns.

Political equations also shifted in Maliya Miyana, traditionally a Congress bastion. While Congress retained dominance in most wards, the BJP made notable inroads by winning key seats.
