Ahmedabad | Gujarat — A major terror scare that triggered a high-alert response from multiple security agencies in Ahmedabad has turned out to be an ill-conceived prank by a 12-year-old boy from Surat. The threatening letter, which warned of a Lashkar-e-Taiba-linked blast at a sports club near SP Stadium, was traced by Naranpura Police to the son of a Surat-based cloth merchant, bringing an end to days of anxiety and speculation.
The handwritten note, discovered on June 1 inside a locker at the sports club, had mentioned underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba while warning of a blast on June 21. The contents of the letter immediately raised alarm bells, prompting the deployment of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), Special Operations Group (SOG), Dog Squad and local police teams.
According to police sources, the threatening note was written in English with a pencil by the 12-year-old boy while his family was staying at the club. Investigators later learned that the child had scribbled the message “for fun” after watching the recently released film Dhurandhar. He then placed the letter inside a locker, where it remained unnoticed until housekeeping staff discovered it during routine cleaning.
“The investigation involved a detailed examination of CCTV footage and the digital access logs of the locker,” a police official said. “These technical leads helped us identify the family that had occupied the room. During questioning, the child admitted to writing the note.”
The room from which the letter was recovered had earlier been booked through a doctor’s reference and was occupied by three foreign businessmen on May 29 and 30. Their presence initially added another layer of concern to the investigation. However, police verified their credentials and found no connection to the threat.
Following nearly two hours of intensive searches by security teams, no explosives or suspicious materials were found at the premises.
Officials have confirmed that the incident was a prank with no terror links.
