UMARPADA (SURAT) : In a powerful bid to build a malnutrition-free and healthy society, Umarpara taluka observed ‘National Nutrition Month’ this September with remarkable energy and widespread community participation. The campaign was spearheaded by the Adani Foundation’s flagship ‘Fortune Suposhan’ project in close collaboration with the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) department of the surat District Panchayat.
Since its launch in Umarpara in April 2024, the ‘Fortune Suposhan’ initiative has been working together with the ICDS to systematically combat malnutrition. The project focuses on driving grassroots awareness and improving nutritional health among vulnerable groups, including infants, adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and their families.
To mark National Nutrition Month, a series of vibrant and impactful activities were rolled out across the taluka. These included spirited awareness rallies, personalized family counseling, interactive group discussions, and collective nutrition pledges. The campaign also championed the ‘My Anganwadi, My Responsibility’ initiative, featured exhibitions of wholesome indigenous recipes, and promoted the setup of home nutrition gardens (Poshan Vatikas). To ensure maximum reach, volunteers conducted door-to-door visits to educate families on the value of locally sourced vegetables, balanced diets, maternal-child healthcare, and essential hygiene practices.
A dedicated team from the Adani Foundation, alongside active village-level ‘Suposhan Sangini’ community workers, collaborated seamlessly with ICDS personnel to reach and educate approximately 28,977 people across the taluka.
The ultimate vision of this joint initiative is to transform nutrition from a household concern into a thriving mass movement (Jan Andolan), paving the way for a healthier Umarpara. Powered by the collective strength of local citizens, dedicated Anganwadi workers, and government bodies, Umarpara taluka is marching resolutely toward a stronger, healthier, and brighter future.
