VALSAD: Vedic chants echoed through the streets of Valsad on Tuesday as more than 1,000 students, teachers, government officers and education officials joined a grand Sanskrit Gaurav Yatra, celebrating the richness of Sanskrit and India’s ancient knowledge tradition.

The procession marked the beginning of the Sanskrit Sapta Mahotsav in Valsad district, aimed at creating greater awareness, interest and pride among students towards the Sanskrit language.

District Panchayat President Hetalben Patel flagged off the yatra from the Shriphal Kazheri Collectorate office at 9 am with the chanting of Sanskrit Vedic mantras. Dharampur MLA Arvindbhai Patel, probationary IAS officer Piyush Ghatala and District Superintendent of Police Yuvrajsinh Jadeja were present on the occasion.

“The Sanskrit Sapta Mahotsav seeks to strengthen students’ connection with our language, culture and Indian knowledge tradition,” officials said, highlighting the importance of taking Sanskrit to the younger generation.

The yatra passed through Circuit House, Azad Chowk, Stadium Road and the ST Depot before returning to the Collectorate. Participants raised slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, “Vande Mataram” and “Jai Shri Ram”, while Vedic mantras resonated along the route.

Students dressed as sages performed a symbolic yagna on chariots, while replicas of the Vedas, Upanishads and Ramayana emerged as major attractions. Students portraying Ram, Sita and Lakshmana added colour and cultural significance to the procession.

Carrying banners calling for the preservation and promotion of Sanskrit, the students marched in a disciplined manner, drawing attention from residents across the city.

Valsad Provincial Officer Vimal Patel, District Education Officer Dr Rajeshree L. Tandel, District Primary Education Officer D.B. Vasava and District Youth Development Officer Himali Joshi, along with teachers and office bearers, also participated.

Officials said the celebrations aim to bring Sanskrit’s “proud linguistic and cultural heritage” closer to the masses while inspiring students to value India’s timeless intellectual legacy.
