SURAT : Surat’s textile and fashion businesses are rapidly embracing digital commerce, with Snapdeal’s active seller base in the city more than tripling in a year, making Surat one of the marketplace’s key sourcing and sales hubs.
Surat now accounts for 27.2% of Snapdeal’s active sellers nationwide and 31.3% of its all-India sales, with local businesses supplying sarees, kurtis, salwar suits, lehengas, gowns, ethnic fabrics and apparel for men and children.
To accelerate this growth ahead of the festive season, Snapdeal has launched Project Gati, a 45-day seller acceleration programme offering new sellers advertising credits, faster payment cycles, AI-based cataloguing support, marketplace insights and dedicated assistance.
Achint Setia, CEO, Snapdeal, said Surat demonstrates how manufacturing-led businesses can use e-commerce to reach customers across India.
“The rapid expansion of our seller base in Surat shows that this is no longer a supplementary channel for local businesses, but an important route to market,” Setia said.
Snapdeal also unveiled new AI-powered shopping tools. Its Snap&Shop image-search feature allows consumers to upload an outfit photograph and find similar products. The platform processes more than one million image searches monthly.
Its conversational search system allows shoppers to describe products using natural language, while more than 76% of customer orders are influenced by its AI-powered StyleMatch recommendation engine, according to the company.
In Gujarat, Snapdeal’s active seller base has nearly tripled over the past year, with the state contributing 34.9% of the company’s all-India sales.
