OpenAI Adds Apple Messages Integration to Give ChatGPT More Autonomy on Mac

OpenAI has introduced a new Apple Messages integration that gives ChatGPT greater ability to assist with everyday communication on Mac computers.

The new feature allows users to search through Messages conversations, catch up on chats, draft replies and send messages through ChatGPT. It can also suggest follow-up responses and help identify potential spam.

OpenAI says users remain in control of outgoing messages. ChatGPT will only send a text after receiving user approval, while settings can also be configured to require approval for every drafted message.

The integration goes beyond messaging. ChatGPT can also interact with a user’s calendar, including searching for information and adding events, while helping draft responses and organize conversations.

The feature is currently available on Mac through ChatGPT Work and Codex on desktop. It is not currently available on iPhone.

The update represents another step toward making ChatGPT more capable of performing tasks across a user’s computer rather than simply generating responses to prompts.
