BHARUCH : A massive fire erupted at Vision Products Pvt. Ltd. in Dahej GIDC early Monday morning, sending thick columns of smoke into the sky and triggering a major emergency response. The blast-like sound reportedly travelled several kilometres, while flames engulfed the company’s warehouse.
More than seven fire brigade teams rushed to the industrial unit after receiving information about the incident and launched an intensive operation using water and foam to bring the blaze under control.
Wagra Mamlatdar Viral Vasava said emergency teams were immediately mobilised after the fire was reported.
“All teams, including firefighters, reached the site immediately. Efforts are being made on a war footing to control the fire using water and foam,” Vasava said.
The incident initially sparked fears of a major industrial disaster because of the intensity of the flames and the loud sound heard in surrounding areas. However, officials later said there were no casualties.
Dinesh Gamit, Deputy Director of Industrial Safety and Health, said the fire had broken out in solvent drums stored inside the company’s warehouse.
“There was no blast inside the warehouse. Since it was a warehouse and nobody was present there at the time, casualties have been avoided,” Gamit said.
According to Gamit, around eight fire tenders were deployed and the blaze had been largely brought under control. However, firefighters were expected to continue operations for another one to one-and-a-half hours as solvent remaining in the drums continued to burn.
Officials said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been established. A preliminary possibility being examined is that a solvent spill or static charge may have triggered the blaze.
The company’s representatives reportedly informed authorities that all employees were safe.
Officials said a detailed assessment would be carried out after the fire was completely extinguished to determine the extent of property damage.
