VALSAD :The picturesque Nargol Beach in Valsad district is set for a major transformation as the district administration has started preparations to develop it as a Blue Flag beach with world-class facilities, strict cleanliness measures and a complete ban on plastic use.

Valsad District Collector Nitin Sangwan and a team of senior officials inspected Nargol and Umargam beaches as part of the Gujarat government’s initiative to promote coastal tourism. During the visit, the Collector suggested several measures to improve tourist facilities and preserve the natural beauty of the coastline.

The administration proposed using the district-level general ATV grant and Collector’s special grant for the rejuvenation of Nargol Beach. The plan includes improved infrastructure, better tourist amenities and environmentally sustainable development.

“Nargol Beach has immense tourism potential. Scientific planning, cleanliness and modern facilities can transform it into a world-class destination,” officials said during the inspection.

The proposed development plan includes water sports activities, comfortable seating areas, selfie points, dedicated structures for social media content creation and improved facilities for local hawkers. Officials also stressed the importance of creating employment opportunities for local residents through tourism development.

A major focus of the project will be making Nargol Beach plastic-free. The administration plans to completely prohibit plastic items on the beach and conduct strict checks to prevent visitors from carrying plastic materials.

“Plastic pollution is one of the biggest challenges for coastal areas. Strict implementation of plastic-free rules is essential to protect the marine ecosystem,” the administration stated.

To maintain hygiene, pay-and-use accessible toilets will also be developed for tourists.

During the visit, Collector Sangwan appreciated the cleanliness efforts undertaken by local residents and the Gram Panchayat. However, he expressed concern over plastic waste and other garbage being washed ashore.

For a permanent cleanliness solution, the Collector suggested that local industries support the initiative under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by sponsoring the cost of individual beach cleaners.

“If local industrialists provide one cleaner each under CSR, maintaining the cleanliness of Nargol Beach can become more effective and sustainable,” Sangwan suggested.
