SURAT: In a significant recognition for South Gujarat’s business community, Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) President Ashok Jirawala has been appointed as a member of the State Advisory Committee (SAC) of the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC).
The committee, constituted under the Electricity Act, 2003, advises GERC on key policy and regulatory matters related to the state’s power sector. It comprises experts and representatives from industry, trade, agriculture, consumer groups, power utilities, academia and energy research.
Welcoming his appointment, Jirawala said he would strongly represent the concerns of South Gujarat’s industries and advocate reforms that benefit businesses across the region.
“It is an honour to represent the industries of South Gujarat on this prestigious committee. I will ensure that issues affecting trade and industry are effectively placed before GERC while working towards quality, uninterrupted and competitive power supply,” Jirawala said.
He added that special attention would be given to the needs of the textile, diamond and MSME sectors, which are heavily dependent on reliable electricity for growth and global competitiveness.
Industry leaders across South Gujarat have welcomed the appointment, expressing confidence that it will strengthen communication between businesses and the state’s electricity regulator.
The SGCCI said it will continue to work closely with the Gujarat government and regulatory authorities to promote industry-friendly policies, sustainable industrial growth and a stronger business ecosystem across the state.
