Ahmedabad | Gujarat — Anger over technical glitches in Gujarat’s centralized college admission system erupted into chaos in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, when members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) stormed the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat office and broke the main gate during a protest. Students claimed thousands of aspirants are being pushed into uncertainty due to persistent problems in the Gujarat Common Admission Portal (GCAS).

Protest Escalates at KCG Office

A large number of ABVP activists and student leaders gathered outside the KCG office, raising slogans against the admission system. Tensions escalated when protesters alleged that officials refused to provide clear answers regarding the ongoing technical issues.

Eyewitnesses said the situation turned volatile after protesters clashed with police and forced their way inside the premises. In the chaos, the main entry gate was damaged before activists sat outside the office chanting slogans and “Ramdhun”.

“We came here to present students’ problems peacefully, but no official was ready to listen,” one ABVP leader said during the protest.

Students List Major GCAS Problems

No Form Editing and OTP Delays

Students complained that once the GCAS form is submitted, it cannot be edited even for minor mistakes. This forces applicants to submit a new form and pay the fee again.

They also alleged frequent delays in receiving OTPs during registration.

“A single typing mistake is costing students time and money,” a protesting student said.

No Helpdesk Despite Fees

Another major grievance was the absence of support services despite a ₹300 application fee.

Students alleged that no helpdesks have been set up at universities or colleges, and the official helpline fails to resolve queries.

“Students are paying fees but getting zero support,” an activist claimed.

Confusion Over CBSE and Supplementary Students

Protesters also raised concerns over admission clarity for CBSE students and those appearing for supplementary exams.

Rumours that CBSE applicants may be limited to 10% of seats have created panic among students. Meanwhile, no clear provision exists for students awaiting supplementary results.

“This uncertainty is affecting thousands of careers,” an ABVP representative said.

Officials Promise Representation to Gandhinagar

When questioned by media, a GCAS official reportedly said the concerns would be forwarded to Gandhinagar for a decision. However, protesters said the response lacked urgency and clarity.

“Students need solutions now, not promises of future discussions,” a student leader said.

Rising Pressure on Authorities

The GCAS portal is currently handling college admissions across Gujarat, and recent technical issues have sparked widespread concern among students and parents.

With admissions underway, pressure is mounting on authorities to fix the system quickly. Protesters warned that if immediate action is not taken, larger demonstrations may follow.
