Jamnagar | Gujarat — In a historic judgment delivered more than three decades after the crime shook the nation, the Special TADA Court in Jamnagar has convicted 12 accused in the Gosabara arms landing case linked to the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts. The verdict closes one of Gujarat’s longest-running terror trials while leaving several key conspirators, including underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, still on the run.

Special Judge R.P. Mogera sentenced 10 convicts to five years’ imprisonment with a ₹5,000 fine, while two others received seven years of rigorous imprisonment and an ₹8,000 fine.

“This judgment sends a strong message that even after decades, justice will prevail in cases of terrorism,” a senior prosecutor said.

Conspiracy Linked to Babri Demolition Aftermath

Investigators revealed that the conspiracy was hatched in Dubai following the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992. The plan allegedly aimed to trigger communal unrest across India by smuggling arms and explosives that were later linked to the 1993 Mumbai bombings.

According to the prosecution, weapons and explosives were shipped from Karachi via a vessel and transferred mid-sea before being landed at Gosabara port near Porbandar. The consignment reportedly included RDX, grenades, rifles and over 150 modern weapons.

“These arms were transported through Gujarat and sent to multiple states, forming a critical link in the terror network,” officials said.

Massive Investigation and Legal Battle

The case, registered in 1993, saw an extensive investigation led by senior police and central agencies. Over the years, 46 accused were arrested and charges were framed against 29 individuals who eventually faced trial.

Case figures highlight the scale of the long legal battle:

Total accused: 46

Convicted: 12

Deceased during trial: 11

Discharged: 6

Absconding fugitives: 15

Among those declared fugitives are alleged masterminds including Dawood Ibrahim, Tiger Memon and Chhota Shakeel.

Special Public Prosecutor Tushar Gokani presented testimony from 63 witnesses over four years, strengthening the prosecution’s case.

Largest Arms Landing in Gujarat’s History

The Gosabara arms landing remains one of the biggest illegal arms smuggling operations ever uncovered in Gujarat. The court observed that the conspiracy involved international coordination and support from foreign operatives.

“This verdict reflects the state’s firm resolve in the fight against terrorism,” a prosecution team member said.
