Ahmedabad | Gujarat — Celebrations swept across Gujarat on Monday after the Bharatiya Janata Party registered a sweeping victory in West Bengal Assembly elections. From the party’s state headquarters at Kamalam to streets in Surat, jubilant workers burst crackers, raised slogans and shared traditional Bengali snacks to mark the occasion.

The celebrations, however, also drew attention after state BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma mistakenly credited Rabindranath Tagore with composing the national song Vande Mataram—which was actually written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in his novel Anandamath.

Festive Mood with Bengal Flavours

At Kamalam, party leaders and workers celebrated in a unique way by enjoying West Bengal’s popular snack jhalmuri and sweets like rasgulla. Firecrackers lit up the skies as chants of “Vande Mataram”, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Jai Shri Ram” echoed across party offices.

“This victory belongs to the people of Bengal and their mothers and sisters,” Vishwakarma said. “It reflects the trust people have in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the tireless work of party workers.”

Leaders Hail Historic Mandate

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel congratulated party workers and credited the victory to the politics of development.

“I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this grand victory in West Bengal. The vision of a developed India is progressing strongly, and our workers’ dedication has made this possible,” Patel said.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi described the result as a major turning point.

“The citizens of Bengal have delivered a historic mandate. This victory shows people’s faith in development and governance,” he said.

Jubilation Across Surat

In Surat, BJP workers gathered in large numbers in areas such as Sarthana, celebrating with rallies and fireworks. Special enthusiasm was seen among party members who had campaigned in West Bengal for the past two months.

“As soon as news of the victory broke, celebrations erupted across the city,” said a local party worker. “It feels like our hard work has paid off.”
