Veteran Indian actor Bharat Kapoor, best known for his powerful supporting and negative roles in Hindi cinema, has passed away at the age of 80 following a cardiac arrest. The actor had been unwell for several days prior to his death.

The news of his passing was confirmed by his close friend Avatar Gill, who spoke to news agency PTI. According to Gill, Kapoor suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence around 3:00 PM on Monday afternoon. His son Rahul reportedly informed family members and close associates shortly after the incident.
Gill, who shared a long personal and professional association with Kapoor spanning over five decades, described the loss as deeply personal. He recalled working with the actor in theatre productions and films, adding that Kapoor had been like an elder brother, mentor, and lifelong friend.
A Career Defined by Powerful Supporting Roles
Bharat Kapoor built a long-standing career in Hindi cinema, earning recognition for his impactful performances, particularly in negative and supporting roles. He was widely appreciated for his roles in films such as Barsaat, Aakhree Raasta, Noorie, Ram Balram, Inkaar, Hindustan Ki Kasam, Sone Pe Suhaaga, and Balidaan.
His ability to portray intense and memorable antagonist characters made him a familiar face in Indian cinema throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
Final Rites and Industry Tributes
His last rites were performed on Monday evening at approximately 6:00 PM at a crematorium near Sion Hospital. A prayer meeting (chautha ceremony) is scheduled for April 30 at the North Bombay Association.
Friends and colleagues from the film and theatre industry, including actors and filmmakers such as Rakesh Bedi and director Ramesh Talvar, attended the funeral to pay their final respects.
Family and Personal Life
Bharat Kapoor is survived by his wife Lopa and sons Rahul and Sagar. His daughter Kavita had passed away a few years earlier.
