The incident took place in Rasli village of Pavi Jetpur taluka on Wednesday evening, turning a quiet rural setting into a scene of panic and survival.

Leopard Attack in Village Backyard

According to reports, the child was playing in the backyard of her home while her mother was nearby working. In the fading light, a leopard reportedly entered the area and suddenly pounced on the girl.

Her mother immediately screamed for help, alerting the child’s father, Suresh Rathwa, who rushed to the spot.

Father’s Split-Second Decision Saves Life

Witnesses and forest officials said Rathwa initially froze in shock upon seeing the animal attacking his daughter. However, he quickly regained composure and acted without hesitation.

He rushed at the leopard, managed to grab his daughter, and began striking the animal while holding her tightly in his arms.

Despite repeated clawing attempts by the leopard, Rathwa did not let go of the child.

Intense Struggle With Wild Animal

Forest officials described the encounter as a life-or-death struggle lasting several minutes.

Rathwa reportedly used his strength to push back the leopard and even forced open its jaws while protecting his daughter. The animal tried repeatedly to regain control, but eventually loosened its grip.

The leopard finally retreated and fled into nearby fields.

Child Injured, But Recovering

Officials confirmed that the girl sustained serious injuries to her face and neck. She was immediately taken to a local hospital and is currently responding to treatment.

Forest authorities believe the leopard likely wandered into the village from a nearby river ravine while searching for food.

Forest Department Response

Range Forest Officer Jaydeep Solanki said villagers had previously spotted leopards in the surrounding area, but this was the first recorded attack on a human.

Following the incident, forest officials deployed:

  • Three cages in the area
  • Trap cameras to monitor movement
  • Additional surveillance teams

Locals also reported spotting the leopard again hours after the attack.

Heroic Act Praised Locally

Villagers have praised Suresh Rathwa’s bravery, calling his actions life-saving and extraordinary under extreme danger. Officials also acknowledged his courage, saying his quick response prevented a fatal outcome.
