Surat: This Diwali, it’s raining moolah for the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation’s (GSRTC) Surat division. About 312 buses have been booked in advance by the travelers in the diamond city during the Diwali festival, earning a whopping Rs 52 lakh worth of revenue to the GSRTC on the first day of booking, opened on Monday.

To facilitate the travelers, especially those from the diamond industry, visiting their hometowns in the Saurashtra region, other destinations in Gujarat and Maharashtra during the Diwali festival, the GSRTC has decided to operate 1,100 Diwali special buses from Surat between October 29 to November 4.

The Diwali special buses will depart from the ST Depot at Lambe Hanuman Road in the city between 4 pm to 10 pm.

Sanjay Joshi, administrative head, GSRTC’s Surat-division told TBT, “There is an overwhelming response from the travelers during the Diwali festival. We have deployed 1,100 extra buses to cater to our customers, traveling towards North Gujarat, Saurashtra, Maharashtra, and other destinations. Already, about 312 buses have been booked by the passengers till noon on Monday. More passengers are coming forward for the booking to travel to their hometowns”

Joshi added, “We have launched a special offer for the passengers. In the group booking of 51 seats, the bus will pick up the passengers from their residence and that they can enjoy the non-stop journey to their hometowns. The booking of the Diwali special buses can be done on www. gsrtc. in and on the GSRTC mobile application.”

According to Joshi, the GSRTC has publicized the tariff for various routes. For traveling from Surat to Amreli, the passengers will have to pay Rs 315, for Savarkundla Rs 340, Bhavnagar Rs 275, Mahuva Rs 325, Gariadhar Rs 310, Junagadh Rs 345, Rajkot Rs 305, Talaja Rs 305, Gadhada Rs 310, Jamnagar Rs 355, Ahmedabad Rs 230, Palanpur Rs 300, Jhalod Rs 250 and Dahod Rs 245.
