Surat : After nearly three months of closure due to major concourse construction, platforms 2 and 3 at Surat railway station have officially reopened for passengers from April 1.

The long-awaited development comes as a relief for thousands of daily commuters and travelers, as 115 trains that were temporarily shifted to Udhna station will now resume halting at Surat. The reopening marks the completion of the second phase of redevelopment work, which began on January 10 under the Western Railway’s ambitious modernization plan.

According to Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the concourse work at Surat station has been successfully completed, paving the way for normal train operations on platforms 2 and 3.

During the closure period, a total of 201 trains were redirected to Udhna station, significantly impacting passenger movement and logistics. However, with the latest infrastructure upgrades, the railway authorities have shifted 97 express and superfast trains, along with 18 MEMU trains, back to Surat station, restoring normalcy for passengers.

The reopening of platforms 2 and 3 is expected to significantly ease congestion at Udhna station, which saw an unprecedented surge in train stoppages over the past 82 days. Trains arriving from Nandurbar and Jalgaon will now be redirected to halt at Udhna instead of Surat, further streamlining railway traffic in the region.

Some of the prominent trains resuming halts at Surat station include the Lokshakti Express (22928), Jaipur-Bandra Terminus (09723), Ahmedabad Duronto (12297), Ranakpur Express (14707), Kerala Sampark Kranti (12218), and Garib Rath Sarai Rohilla (12215), among others.

With platforms 2 and 3 back in operation, Surat railway station is now better equipped to handle the heavy influx of passengers. The Western Railway authorities have assured travelers that further redevelopment and modernization efforts will continue to enhance facilities at one of Gujarat’s busiest railway hubs.
