Surat : A massive fire erupted at Parth Plastic and Platinum International textile companies located on Road No. 17 in the Sachin Hojiwala industrial area of Surat. The blaze was triggered by a short circuit following an explosion in the DGVCL DP (distribution panel) at Platinum International Textile Mill. The fire quickly spread to the large quantity of yarn stored inside the textile mill and later engulfed the neighboring Parth Plastic Mill. Due to the highly flammable materials present, the flames intensified, producing thick smoke visible from up to 10 kilometers away.

Firefighters Battle the Blaze

Upon receiving the alert, the Hojiwala Fire Brigade dispatched more than five fire trucks to the scene. Firefighters have been continuously spraying water to control the fire, which had become uncontrollable due to the nature of the materials involved. Fortunately, since the incident occurred on a Holi holiday, no workers were present in the mills, preventing any casualties.

Fire Officer Vasant Suryavanshi stated, “Fire brigades from Hojiwala Fire Station responded immediately with multiple vehicles. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but cooling operations are currently underway.”

Rapid Spread Due to Highly Flammable Materials

The fire initially broke out in Platinum International Textile Mill due to the DP explosion, which led to a short circuit. The stored yarn quickly caught fire, and as the flames became uncontrollable, they spread to the adjacent Parth Plastic Mill. Given that plastic burns at a rapid rate, the fire spread fiercely, and large flames could be seen from a distance.

Rasikbhai, the manager of Platinum International Company, confirmed, “There was a large quantity of yarn in our textile mill. The fire started due to an explosion in the DGVCL DP, which caused a short circuit. The flames soon engulfed the neighboring Parth Plastic Mill. Thankfully, since the factory was closed for the Holi festival, no workers were inside, avoiding any casualties.”

Previous Fire Incidents Raise Safety Concerns

This fire comes just weeks after the devastating fire at Shivshakti Textile Market in Surat, which broke out on February 25. The fire reignited on February 26, spreading to 843 shops, out of which 700 were reduced to ashes. It took the fire department 32 hours and more than 40 fire trucks to control the blaze, using over 4 million liters of water.

Given the frequency of such incidents, safety concerns in Surat’s textile and industrial areas are once again in the spotlight. Authorities are urging textile and plastic companies to conduct regular energy audits and implement fire safety measures to prevent such disasters in the future.
