Ahmedabad : Ahmedabad Cyber Crime police arrested three individuals from Rajasthan for orchestrating a ₹1.15 crore financial scam targeting a senior citizen. The arrest has shed light on a sophisticated fraud involving fake calls, digital intimidation, and potential bank collusion.
As per reports, Ahmedabad Cyber Crime police have arrested three suspects from Rajasthan in connection with a ₹1.15 crore scam that defrauded a senior citizen from the Satellite area. The trio, identified as Shivraj Jaat, Kamlesh Bishnoi, and Nathuram Jaat, allegedly executed a meticulously planned financial fraud.
The fraud began on November 16 when the elderly man received a call from someone claiming to represent a courier company. The caller alleged that the parcel he had sent to Iran contained drugs and other illegal items, initiating a wave of panic.
The scammers escalated the scheme with a video call, during which they pretended to record the victim’s “statement” for over three hours. Using the threat of a fabricated “digital arrest,” they coerced the senior citizen into transferring ₹1.15 crore to various accounts.
Realizing the fraud, the victim promptly lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime department, sparking a comprehensive investigation.
Following the complaint, Cyber Crime officials traced the suspects to Rajasthan and apprehended them. During the operation, authorities recovered ₹63 lakh spread across five different bank accounts and seized ₹11 lakh in cash from the suspects.
Investigators believe the fraudsters operated with the assistance of some bank employees. Efforts are underway to identify and take action against these collaborators, suggesting the scam could have deeper roots than initially suspected.
This case underscores the growing sophistication of cybercrime, where scammers exploit digital communication to manipulate victims. Ahmedabad Cyber Crime police have urged citizens, especially senior residents, to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities. They recommend verifying suspicious claims and refraining from making any financial transactions under duress.
