Gandhinagar : State Education Minister Praful Panseriya has issued a clear directive to private schools, emphasising that no child should be forced to wear sweaters of a specific color or brand prescribed by schools this winter. In light of the plummeting temperatures, the minister highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring children’s safety and comfort during the cold season.

Panseriya stressed that all district education officers have been instructed to monitor compliance with this policy. Schools, whether primary, secondary, or higher secondary, are prohibited from compelling students to wear thin or non-chill-proof sweaters solely to match their uniforms. Instead, parents have the liberty to provide children with warm clothing of their choice, including cold-proof sweaters, hats, and gloves, to safeguard them against the chill.

“If any school insists that children wear only the prescribed sweaters, parents are encouraged to report the matter directly to the district education officer,” the minister said. He reiterated that the state government stands firmly with parents and children, making every effort to prevent cold-related health risks.

Panseriya also made a strong appeal to private school administrators, urging them to prioritize students’ well-being over uniform conformity. Schools have been asked to exercise flexibility and avoid creating financial or practical burdens on families.

“Children should not suffer from the cold due to restrictive uniform policies,” the minister stated. He called on parents to ensure their children are adequately protected with warm clothing available at home, without fear of school regulations imposing limitations.

The minister warned that strict action would be taken against any school found violating this directive. The state government remains resolute in addressing such issues and ensuring that no child’s health is jeopardized by rigid uniform rules during winter.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to promptly report any infractions to their local district education officer’s office, helping enforce this child-centric policy effectively.

This initiative is part of the state government’s broader efforts to promote child welfare and ensure that educational institutions prioritize student safety and comfort during extreme weather conditions.
