Ahmedabad : In a stern verdict aimed at curbing rising criminal activities, Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Kumar Thakkar sentenced four men to 10 years of imprisonment for a violent loot case involving ₹2,000. The case underscores the judiciary’s commitment to deterring crimes involving deadly weapons.

The convicted individuals, identified as Hasmukh Modi, Chetan Makwana, Chintan Solanki, and Mahesh Rathod, were part of a criminal gang that attacked and robbed a young man, Rahul Thakor, earlier this year. Public Prosecutor Ajit Trivedi, representing the government, detailed the events of January 14, 2023, during the trial.

The incident occurred near Nava Vadaj Rabari Vasahat, where the accused confronted Rahul over a minor disagreement involving the refusal to lend a motorcycle. The situation escalated, and the gang robbed ₹2,000 from Rahul and assaulted him with swords and knives, inflicting serious injuries. A minor, also implicated in the crime, is expected to face trial under juvenile justice laws.

Prosecutor Trivedi emphasised the alarming rise in crimes involving deadly weapons over trivial disputes. He argued that the judiciary must impose strict penalties to deter such incidents. Trivedi urged the court to deliver a judgement that sends a strong message to society and instil a sense of law and order among those with criminal tendencies.

Considering the prosecutor’s arguments and the severity of the crime, the court handed down a 10-year sentence to all four accused. The verdict reflects the court’s determination to curb the use of deadly weapons in disputes and reinforce public safety.

The incident highlights a worrying trend of violent crimes escalating from minor disagreements. The prosecution pointed out the need for stringent legal actions to prevent such acts and maintain social harmony.

In addition to the sentence, the court expressed its concern about the involvement of a minor in such violent activities, urging stronger measures to address youth participation in crime.

This judgement serves as a warning to those considering criminal behaviour and as a reassurance to citizens that the law will act decisively to protect them from violence and ensure justice.
