Surat Metro Crane Stuck in Mud, Sparks Safety Concerns

Surat : A fresh mishap during the construction of the Surat metro project has captured attention online, as a video shows a heavy crane slipping towards the railing near residential and commercial buildings, becoming lodged in the mud. 

Recently, a metro crane collapsed onto a bungalow located on Puna Road. A portion of the bungalow, including the balcony, sustained damage in this incident. Thankfully, the bungalow was unoccupied at the time of the incident. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties. 

A significant incident occurred when a large crane structure collapsed onto an autorickshaw on the Ring Road. The autorickshaw in motion sustained damage. In a fortunate turn of events, the auto driver emerged unscathed, and there were no reported injuries. 

In Surat, metro construction has been ongoing for a while. This operation is currently in full swing, particularly in the walled city area.  The route from Zampa Bazaar to the railway station has been closed for an extended period due to the ongoing construction of the metro project in Surat. 

Recently, residents and shopkeepers in the Zampa Bazaar area expressed their frustration through protests, highlighting the prolonged delays in the metro project and the significant financial losses amounting to crores of rupees that they have been facing. The shop owners are calling for compensation from the metro rail department for the daily losses they are facing as a result of the road closure. 

A vigilant individual captured footage of the crane ensnared in the mud, highlighting the oversight of the Surat metro authorities. This footage captures the scene at the Commerce House located close to the Mahidharpura Post Office.It is a relief that the crane avoided crashing onto the roadside shops. A crane became immobilized in the mud. A substantial crane, tipping the scales at 250 tonnes, was promptly halted from operation when the incident took place.

An observant individual remarks on the situation, questioning what might have occurred if a larger crane had been in the same predicament on the road. Metro officials seem to lack awareness regarding security matters. A large crane becoming immobilized on the road poses a risk of toppling onto nearby businesses. There is a call for responsible officials, including those from Metro, to focus on this issue.
