Over 2,200 Evacuated in Navsari Due to Floods

Navsari : About 2,200 people were rescued and shifted to safer places following the flood-like situation in the low-lying areas in Navsari district due to the incessant rains and floods in the Purna river in the last 24 hours. 

Kshipra S. Agre, Navsari district collector informed that the Navsari district recorded an average 100 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. The highest rainfall of 160 mm was recorded in Navsari taluka, 130 mm in Jalalpore taluka, and 123 mm in Gandevi taluka respectively. 

Due to heavy rains in Navsari district and uplands, the water level of Purna river has increased. Purna river is currently flowing at 28 feet.Ambika river is at 23.61 feet, and Kaver at 13.00 feet.

An estimated 1560 people have been shifted to safer places due to inundation in low-lying areas like Rail Relief Colony, Balapir Dargah, Dussehra Hill, Rustamwadi, Vijalpore Marutinagar in Navsari urban area. Food packets and all health related facilities have been provided. Also, the evacuation work in other areas is being done by the team.

A total of 664 people have been evacuated to safe places in Pardi, Wada, Adda, Dharagiri, Nashilpore, Pinsad, Kachhol, Kasbapar, Chandravadan Supa villages in Navsari rural taluka

As the water level of Purna river rises due to heavy rains, bus routes have been diverted blocking the bridge to Supa passing through Navsari village. Apart from this, a total of 74 roads in Navsari district have been closed due to waterlogging. While vehicular traffic is closed on 4 state highways.

Purna, Ambika and Kaveri rivers are overflowing due to heavy rains in Navsari. Purna river has crossed the dangerous level. Apart from this, five people got trapped in Adda village and were rescued by the fire department and moved to a safe place. When the water level of the rivers rises, the administration has swung into action mode and operations have started to move people from low-lying areas to safer places.

The water level of Purna river rose above the alarming level and the flood waters entered the low-lying areas. Houses are flooded in many societies. More than 150 people were shifted to a safer place when houses in the Bhensad Khada area of ​​Navsari were flooded.

As per forecast of Meteorological Department, Orange Alert has been declared in Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. While yellow alert was declared in Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Anand, Patan, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Aravalli, Anand, Kheda, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Bharuch, Dahod, Chota Udepur, Narmada, Tapi and Dang.
