Surat : Surat, the world’s diamond metropolis, may have won the coveted title of India’s cleanest city, but residents and commuters in Vanakla, Jahangirabad, are outraged. Their outrage originates from the fact that the historic Gaurav Path route between Jahangirabad and Pal has been entirely flooded for the past week. During the first heavy rains last week, a stretch of the Gaurav Path road became submerged.

People living in surrounding residential complexes and bungalows are furious. Despite repeated complaints to Rander’s municipal zonal office, the problem has persisted. The charm of the Gaurav Path road has faded as it has been flooded for more than a week.

Following online complaints from Jahangirabad locals over the last two days, a team of Surat Municipal Corporation officials went to the place and left after spraying insecticides to prevent mosquito breeding in the still water.

Raju Patel, a resident of Vaishno Devi Sky Apartments, stated, “The water on the Gaurav Path road has been stagnant for several days. This is a famous road, and the SMC refuses to clear the water, resulting in the entire road being closed for the last week. Commuters are obliged to drive on the incorrect side, inviting trouble.”

The diamond city has two Gaurav Paths: one connects Piplod to the Surat International Airport via the Surat-Dumas Road, while the other connects Pal to Jahangirabad.

The Surat Municipal Corporation created and built the Gaurav Path expressway to connect Surat City to its airport, Magdalla Sea Port, and Dumas Village. The highway, which replaced the previous Surat-Dumas Road, is a prime example of Indian town and city planning.

However, the Gaurav Path in Jahangirabad, which serves as its terminal point, has been neglected.

According to resident Shailesh Gandhi, there are two Gaurav Paths in Surat, although the Gaurav Path in Jahangirabad is in poor condition. Many people travel from nearby places to enjoy the nightlife, but the flooded road has become a major issue for us. If you observe from a distance, you may detect a river flowing on the road.

Rushikesh Shah, another resident, stated, “We are paying property taxes and additional charges but yet lack basic facilities. Despite the fact that we live along the famed Gaurav Path, the situation is the worst. Even when it does not rain excessively, the road stays soggy.
