Ahmedabad : A complaint has been filed against a passenger on an Indigo flight from Jeddah to Ahmedabad for smoking a bidi onboard.
The passenger, identified as 70-year-old Gafar Abdul Rahim Meman from Navsari, Gujarat, was reportedly smoking in his seat (19F) around 6.10 am on the flight that departed Jeddah at 2:05 am and was scheduled to land at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) at 9:05 am.
According to reports, Meman was using a cup of yogurt as an ashtray and was also found in possession of a matchbox when confronted by Indigo staff. An Indigo staffer subsequently filed a complaint against Meman at the Ahmedabad Airport police station.
Smoking and carrying lighters or matchboxes are strictly prohibited on all flights due to safety concerns. Bidi cigarettes, a type of locally-made cigarette common in South Asia, are known to burn at a higher temperature than conventional cigarettes, posing an additional fire risk.
Indigo airlines has not yet released a statement on the incident. It is unclear what action will be taken against Meman.
