Vadodara : The Chotaudepur Police have initiated legal action against an RTI activist named Rasiklal for his purported involvement in attempting to extort Rs. 50 lakh from Ankit Shah, also known as Montu Shah, the Deputy Sarpanch of Pavi Jetpur Panchayat.

Montu Shah, utilizing government funds, recently constructed a shed near the local vegetable market to facilitate vendors in the area. However, Rasiklal, who resides nearby and owns property adjacent to the market, reportedly sought to utilize the space for commercial endeavors. Despite Rasiklal’s persistent efforts, including multiple applications and legal proceedings, the courts ruled in favor of Montu Shah, finding no wrongdoing on his part.

Subsequently, Montu Shah approached Rasiklal, urging him to desist from obstructing the Panchayat’s initiatives. Allegedly, during this encounter, Rasiklal demanded a sum of Rs. 50 lakh from Montu Shah.

In a bid to substantiate the extortion claim, a relative of Montu Shah conducted a covert operation, during which Rasiklal purportedly confessed to the demand for Rs. 50 lakh. Rasiklal purportedly admitted that his initial intention was to demand Rs. 1 crore, but due to an error, he requested Rs. 50 lakh on that particular occasion.

Following the revelation of the alleged extortion attempt, the Deputy Sarpanch filed a formal complaint against Rasiklal, citing mental harassment and extortion. Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Chotaudepur Police have initiated legal proceedings against the RTI activist.

The case underscores the potential misuse of legal avenues for personal gain and highlights the importance of ethical conduct in public discourse. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are committed to ensuring justice is served and maintaining the integrity of civic institutions.
