Gujarat : Wanted Cadila Pharma CMD Rajiv Modi appears before Ahmedabad police in rape case

Ahmedabad : On a run for more than a month now, Cadila Pharmaceuticals CMD Rajiv Modi appeared before the Sola police station in Ahmedabad on Thursday to record his statement in the alleged sextortion case filed by a Bulgarian woman. Modi’s appearance before the police has come at a time when the complainant foreign national has gone missing under mysterious circumstances since January 24, 2024.

The arrival of Modi occurs in the middle of a turbulent chain of events that have surrounded the case. One of these occurrences is the unexpected departure of the complainant from Gujarat to her home country without prior knowledge to her legal counsel or the authorities in charge of law enforcement. Since the 24th of January, the attorney who was defending the Bulgarian lady has informed both the joint police commissioner of Ahmedabad and the superintendent of police for Ahmedabad Rural about his client’s abduction. In addition to this notice, the attorney sent transcripts of WhatsApp discussions that took place between the Bulgarian lady and the police. This added an additional layer of complication to the inquiry that is now underway.

This new information was sent to the authorities in Ahmedabad by email, which added another layer of complexity to a story that was already rather complicated.
