Surat : In a shocking turn of events at colleges affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU), Surat students were caught scribbling obscenities, racist remarks, and lewd drawings on their answer sheets during exams.

The repercussions for such actions are set to hit hard, with a mandated fine of Rs 1000 and a requisite mental fitness certificate to be submitted to college principals for those intending to sit for future exams.

The recent incident saw approximately six students, pursuing Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees, facing zero marks and Rs 500 penalties each for their offensive content on answer sheets. The offenses ranged from explicit storytelling inspired by the Kamasutra to vulgar love stories, alongside offensive language targeting professors and teachers.

VNSGU conducted hearings for the students involved, allowing them to leave after issuing apologies. However, the university is not taking such incidents lightly. A notification has been issued by VNSGU, addressing the prevalence of students resorting to obscene language in their answer sheets, hinting at underlying mental imbalances.

“This unfortunate trend of using offensive language in answer sheets among students signals a concerning state of mental imbalance,” stated KN Chavda, the Vice-Chancellor of VNSGU. “A hearing was organized, involving professors from the medical faculty, confirming the mental health status of these students. We’ve given them a chance to offer written apologies.”

Chavda further emphasized the revised consequences for such actions. “Moving forward, any instance of writing obscene or offensive content during exams will require the submission of a mental fitness certificate along with a fine of Rs 1000. Compliance with these regulations is mandatory for students to be eligible to apply for subsequent exams.”

This stringent stance aims to not only deter such behavior but also address potential mental health concerns among students. VNSGU is advocating a more responsible approach towards academic conduct, emphasizing the significance of maintaining decorum during examinations, added Chavda.
