Surat : Surat, often referred to as the Diamond City, is renowned for its affluent residents, and during the ongoing Navratri festival, they haven’t hesitated to open their wallets to secure their preferred registration numbers for their newly purchased vehicles at the Regional Transport Office (RTO). The festival season has seen vehicle owners collectively contribute a staggering Rs 68 lakh to the coffers of the RTO, all in their pursuit of exclusive license plates within the RW registration series.

The RTO’s auction of preferred numbers for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers has proven to be a lucrative endeavor, with the premium numbers of two-wheelers alone netting Rs. 6 lakh. In the case of four-wheelers, the RTO has successfully collected more than Rs. 62 lakh.

The Surat RTO thoughtfully organized the auction process during the Navratri festival, a time when vehicle sales typically spike. This offered vehicle owners the golden opportunity to acquire their preferred registration numbers, making their cars truly unique. The auction process encompassed the introduction of new series for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

Among the enthusiastic vehicle owners, Dhruv Patel, who had just acquired a brand new Fortuner car, willingly parted with Rs. 3,91,000 to secure the exclusive number ‘1111.’ Another avid car enthusiast, Vinod Kumar, paid Rs. 1,74,000 to acquire the coveted number ‘7777’ for his newly purchased vehicle. Dhrumil Shah opted for the distinct number ‘9999’ and didn’t hesitate to pay Rs. 1,10,000 for it.

The list of customized numbers and their corresponding prices demonstrates the premium that residents are willing to pay for a distinctive license plate:

Rs. 1,05,000 for ‘0007’

Rs. 51,000 for ‘1100’

Rs. 51,000 for ‘1008’

Rs. 46,000 for ‘0001’

Rs. 46,000 for ‘0999’

Rs. 40,000 for ‘2222’

Rs. 40,000 for ‘0333’

The enthusiasm displayed by Surat’s vehicle owners during the festival showcases their dedication to personalizing their prized possessions. Beyond being a status symbol, these unique registration numbers hold sentimental and aesthetic value for many residents, making them a significant part of the vibrant culture of the Diamond City.

“As the festival season continues, it’s clear that Surat’s vehicle owners are eager to make a statement, not only with their new vehicles but also with their distinctive registration numbers, making their cars stand out on the city’s roads” said an RTO officer.
