Surat : In a shocking revelation, former senior BJP Minister in the Gujarat government, Nanu Vanani, has penned a scathing letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, unveiling a web of corruption and malpractice involving the Town Planning Officer (TPO).

The letter exposes the alleged cancellation of judicial reforms carried out by the government in the Town Planning (TP) scheme numbers 49, 50, and 51 in Katargam, Surat, in 2022, with claims that it benefitted a select group of prominent individuals while stripping the rights of thousands of common people.

Nanu Vanani, a seasoned BJP leader and a former Gujarat minister, has levied serious allegations against the TPO’s decision-making process, labeling it as driven by ulterior motives and rampant corruption. The cancellation of judicial reforms in the TP scheme, which took place in Katargam last year, is being portrayed as a move to confer substantial financial gains to influential figures within the region.

Vanani cited specific instances in which the TP scheme was allegedly manipulated to favor private parties, illustrating the extent of the purported corruption. He pointed out how the TPO allegedly orchestrated the transfer of an Open Plot (OP) owned by an individual into a Final Plot (FP) numbered 286 within TP 49, allegedly resulting in significant financial benefits. Additionally, the government’s decision to revoke FP number 24, allotted to an individual in 2022, and then later reallotting it, raises suspicions of misconduct within the system.

At the heart of the controversy lies the fate of around 47 residential societies encompassed within Katargam’s TP 49. Vanani’s claims suggest that approximately 60,000 ordinary citizens have been adversely affected by the implementation of the TP scheme. Plot sizes within TP 49 range from 35 to 138 square meters, making it a diverse community of varying socio-economic backgrounds.

If this is not enough, the Samast Patidar Samaj Wadi in Katargam, according to Vanani,  has come under the TP reservation following the corrupt practices of the TPO.

The TP scheme’s implementation has allegedly led to the imposition of reservations on the roads and properties owned by these common residents, while privileged individuals are accused of amassing significant wealth virtually overnight.

Vanani’s letter to Prime Minister Modi underlines a concerning state of affairs, where the concerns of a former BJP minister have seemingly fallen on deaf ears within the upper echelons of the State Government and the Town Planning department. The allegations of corruption and malpractice within Gujarat’s Town Planning scheme have compelled Vanani to escalate the matter to the national level by reaching out to the Prime Minister’s office.

The ball is now in the court of the Prime Minister’s office to address these allegations and initiate an appropriate response, potentially leading to significant ramifications for those implicated in the purported corruption and malpractice.
