Surat : In a significant step towards sustainability and eco-consciousness in the textile industry, the 5th edition of Yarn Expo-2023, organized by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), is set to feature an innovative range of specialty yarns, including eco-friendly Jari made from bamboo fibers. This groundbreaking yarn will be displayed for the first time, showcasing its potential to revolutionize fabric-making while promoting environmentally-friendly practices.

The Yarn Expo 2023 will be inaugurated at the Surat International Exhibition and Convention Centre (SIECC) on August 4 and it will run till August 6.

Traditionally, fabric production has heavily relied on plastic Jari, which raises environmental concerns due to its non-biodegradable nature and harmful impact on the ecosystem. However, with the introduction of eco-friendly Jari made from bamboo fibers, the industry is witnessing a transformative shift towards sustainable alternatives.

The eco-friendly bamboo yarn can be utilized in both conventional weaving techniques and advanced high-speed technologies like rapier, airjet, and waterjet weaving. This versatile and environmentally-conscious yarn provides a greener and more ethical solution for the textile industry, catering to the growing demand for eco-friendly and sustainable fabrics.

Ramesh Vaghasia, President of SGCCI, shared his excitement about Yarn Expo-2023, themed ’84’ (Choryasi in Gujarati). The theme pavilion and the Old Fort will showcase around 84 different varieties of yarn, including the eco-friendly bamboo fiber Jari. Covering an extensive area of approximately 1.16 lakh square feet, the exhibition will host around 90 exhibitors from various regions, such as Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bharuch, Mumbai, Ichchalkaranji, Erode, Salem, Madurai, Coimbatore, Karnataka, Telangana, Kolkata, Goa (VASCO), and Pune.

Distinguished personalities like Suresh Sodani, Managing Director of Century Enca Limited; Shirani Ariyaratne, Minister (Commercial) Deputy High Commission, Sri Lanka, Mumbai, India; Pankaj Kumar Singh, Commissioner of CGST Surat; Pravin Pansuriya, President of US-based Clinical Data Solution LLC; and Tarun Sharma, Indian Subcontinent Officer, Govt. of Umm AI Quwain, Free Trade Zone Authority, UAE, will grace the event as Chief Guests.

Girdhargopal Mundra, a prominent figure in the textile industry, expressed that the exhibitors at Yarn Expo-2023 will showcase a diverse range of products, including cotton, polyester, wool, silk, linen, viscose, ramie, and spandex. Additionally, visitors can explore various specialty fibers, such as elastic, metallic, embroidered, textured, slub, dope-dyed spun, low torque, and fancy melange, representing the latest advancements and innovations in natural and man-made fabrics.

The exhibition will serve as a platform for business representatives from South Gujarat to connect and collaborate while attracting over 20,000 buyers and visitors eager to witness the latest trends and advancements in the yarn and fabric industry.
