Mumbai : Abhinav V Pathare, a researcher in public health and community medicine from India, is set to release an insightful research article entitled “Medical interventions and their poor scientific backup: A threat to Evidence-Based Medicine”.

This evidence-based article will highlight that many contemporary medical interventions lack scientific support. It will question common beliefs surrounding medical interventions and highlight the dangers of not subjecting them to rigorous scientific investigation.

Abhinav’s article will examine the lack of scientific support for many medical treatments, which is a problem for Evidence-Based Medicine. Evidence-Based Medicine is the standard for making informed decisions in healthcare. With historical and recent evidence, Abhinav will emphasise the importance of promoting evidence-based practices in healthcare.

Abhinav’s article will explore how doctors search for information. Surprisingly, doctors tend to rely more on textbooks and personal connections than the most reliable source, journal articles. In his article, Abhinav will discuss the drawbacks of using outdated textbooks and the risks associated with relying on personal opinions obtained through doctors’ personal contacts. This type of information-seeking behaviour is inefficient and can put patients’ health at risk.

Abhinav aims to tackle this significant problem by suggesting solutions. Abhinav will emphasise the need for immediate action to improve doctors’ skills in reading and understanding research papers. This can be achieved through training and education incorporated into the medical curriculum and ongoing professional development. By enhancing doctors’ abilities to evaluate research papers, they can make informed decisions based on the latest and most reliable evidence available.

In addition, this article will emphasise the significance of making research papers easier to access and comprehend. Abhinav will recommend that the authors of the journal articles should use plain language, including summaries in simple terms, incorporating visual aids like graphs and videos, and creating graphical abstracts. These suggestions will connect researchers and clinicians, which, in effect, may make it easier to apply research findings to clinical practice.

Abhinav’s article will highlight the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in promoting Evidence-Based Medicine and driving positive change in healthcare and public health. This collaboration involves professionals from diverse fields, such as researchers, doctors, allied health professionals, educators, policymakers, syllabus designers, and decision-makers. Working together as a team is crucial in achieving these goals.

Abhinav’s goal is to help create well-informed programs, interventions, policies, and strategies that have a positive impact on the health of the public.

Abhinav’s research article, “Medical Interventions and their poor scientific backup: A threat to Evidence-Based Medicine,” is expected to be published in a peer-reviewed international scientific journal in the coming weeks.
