The Additional Director General of the Maharashtra Highway Traffic Police, Dr. Ravinder Singal, IPS, discussed how ensuring everyone’s safety on the road takes everyone’s participation. To encourage people to alter their driving habits, there needs to be more advocacy work and more partnerships. He also suggested that people tweet and post more on social media about the value of safety gear like seatbelts and helmets in order to get their fellow citizens to do the same.
As part of SBIF Suraksha, 1600 helmets were donated to the Mumbai Traffic Police to improve road safety and encourage responsible driving, while also giving people with disabilities a chance to earn a living via their creation. These ISI Certified helmets are produced from recycled ABS plastic, and they were manufactured by PwDs who participated in the project’s innovative skill development programme. In a recent speech, Mr. Pravinkumar Padwal, IPS, Joint Commissioner of the Mumbai Traffic Police, emphasised the need of helmet use and proper helmet usage for all motorcyclists. He thanked the SBI Foundation for donating the helmets and said that additional corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects focusing on road safety were needed.
Yashlok Welfare Foundation’s founder, Mr. Alok Adhikari, spoke at the occasion and stated, “This initiative has not only provided sustainable livelihood opportunities to PwDs but has also prioritised the safety of those who tirelessly work to ensure smooth traffic flow and road safety.”
The SBI Foundation, SBI-SG Global Securities Services Pvt. Ltd., and SBICAP Ventures Limited collaborated with the Yashlok Foundation to donate two high-impact ambulances to treat victims of traffic accidents on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway at no cost. These large-capacity ambulances will serve as a lifeline for persons involved in traffic accidents, providing critical care in a timely manner that might save lives. Now that they have two more ambulances, the Highway Traffic Police can get help to the scene of an accident faster so that injured people may get the medical assistance they need.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Sanjay Prakash, Managing Director of SBI Foundation, said, “SBIF Sanjeevani Nirantar Seva is a unique initiative where the Highway Traffic Police, Yashlok Welfare Foundation, and the local hospitals will work in unison to provide timely emergency and trauma care in the golden hour after an accident, on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.”
Ms. Uma Shanmukhi Sistla, Managing Director, SBI SG, added, “SBI SG Global Securities Services is very happy to have associated with SBI Foundation to donate an Ambulance for the Maharashtra Highway Police and Helmets for the Mumbai Traffic Police to strengthen road safety measures, as a part of our corporate social responsibility program.”
