Surat : Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) has taken a significant step in promoting the lab-grown diamond industry by inviting manufacturers from Surat, India, and the Surat Diamond Association (SDA) office bearers to attend the world’s first-ever lab-grown diamond symposium to be held in Dubai on July 10, 2023.

The DMCC CEO and chairman, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, visited the SDA in Surat to extend the invitation and explore collaboration opportunities between the two regions in the lab-grown diamond sector.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DMCC CEO and chairman stated that Dubai is running for the second consecutive term as the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) chair in 2024. DMCC wants to forge solid relationship with Surat, which is known as the diamond capital of the world.

DMCC chairman heard the request made by the diamond industry stakeholders for providing enhanced air connectivity between Surat and Dubai for taking the diamond business at the next level.

The DMCC has also encouraged lab-grown diamond producers to set up offices in DMCC, offering them special benefits to grow their business. This move is expected to foster greater cooperation and promote the growth of the lab-grown diamond sector in Dubai and Surat.

According to Sulayem, the symposium will bring together international stakeholders, manufacturers, researchers, and others in the lab-grown diamond industry to discuss and exchange knowledge on topics ranging from production, identification, grading, and marketing of lab-grown diamonds. DMCC hopes that the symposium will contribute to the growth of the lab-grown diamond industry and position Dubai as a hub for lab-grown diamond trade

In addition to the symposium, DMCC has also agreed to send a delegation of diamond businessmen from Dubai to attend the CARATS exhibition organized by SDA in June. The exhibition will provide a platform for Indian diamond manufacturers to showcase their products to a global audience and facilitate business interactions with Dubai-based companies.

The lab-grown diamond industry has seen a surge in demand in recent years due to their ethical and sustainable production methods, coupled with their lower price points compared to natural diamonds. The industry is expected to continue to grow, and Dubai’s efforts to promote the industry through initiatives like the symposium and collaboration with manufacturers in Surat are likely to drive this growth further.

The meeting was attended by SDA president Nanubhai Vekaria, vice-president Jagdish Khunt, former SDA president Rohit Mehta and other office-bearers of the SDA.
