Surat : Shalby Hospitals in Surat performed the first TUKSpalsty in south Gujarat, a novel Partial Knee Replacement Surgery using Vitamin E Poly, on a patient. Dr. Manu Sharma, a senior member of the Shalby medical staff, performed the procedure.

Compared to the conventional partial knee replacement, also known as unicompartmental knee replacement, unicondylar knee replacement, or microplasty, TUKSplasty is a revolutionary procedure with significant benefits for the patient. When used in TUKSplasty, vitamin E poly significantly lengthens the life of the joint implant with minimal wear. If only a single knee component is damaged and needs to be replaced, TUKSplasty is the best option. The use of Vitamin E Poly is unique to this method of partial knee replacement surgery in India. Savitaben Koringa, 60, was a good candidate for TUKSplasty because only a small portion of her left knee was injured.

“Savitaben’s knee had limited damage and thus we decided to do TUKSplasty in her case,” explained Dr. Manu Sharma, Senior Joint Replacement Surgeon at Shalby Hospitals who performed the first TUKSplasty in South Gujarat.

Through extensive R&D at their implant manufacturing facility in the United States, Shalby Advanced Technology created the Tahoe Unicondylar Knee System implant used in TUKSplasty. This novel joint implant is the result of a collaborative effort between prominent US joint replacement surgeons and implant designers. The patient can expect a shorter hospital stay, smaller incision, less bone removal, preservation of cartilage and ligaments in healthy parts of the knee, less blood loss, faster rehabilitation, a lower risk of infection and blood clots, and the ability to return to normal activities in a matter of weeks. A major benefit in an Indian setting is that patients can sit cross-legged on the floor immediately following the procedure, whereas this is not recommended after Total Knee Replacement.

Savitaben raves, “I am very happy with the result of surgery by Dr. Manu Sharma. Very quickly, I felt back to normal, and it made me happy that only the damaged portion of my knee had to be replaced.

“Shalby Hospitals is a renowned name nationally and internationally for joint replacement,” Dr. Supriyo Sarkar, Chief Administrative Officer of Shalby Hospitals Surat, said. Dr. Vikram Shah, a renowned orthopedic surgeon, founded the company. Today, it is the leader in joint replacement surgeries performed worldwide. When it comes to joint replacements in South Gujarat, Shalby Surat is where people go in droves.

Most cases of knee damage are caused by osteoarthritis, which is inflammation of the cartilage lining the joint surfaces. Knee replacement surgery, either total or partial, is often required for severe cases of osteoarthritis. When it comes to partial knee replacement, TUKSplasty is the best option because the Vitamin E poly used in the procedure increases the likelihood of the implant lasting a long time. Also, the healthy bone is protected.
