Vansh marks the rise of ranks; Nidhi, Kausha eye two titles

Vadodara (Gujarat) [India], November 22 : Vansh Modi basked in the glory on a day when most of the top guns bite the dust as youngsters of Gujarat table tennis came to the fore in the season finale at the IOCL 5th Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2021 that is being organized by The Table Tennis Association of Baroda under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) at the Sama Indoor Sports Complex in Vadodara.

Twelve-year-old Vansh will be in contention for his maiden title of the season as the Baroda lad recorded a 16-14, 8-11, 11-2, 9-11, 11-9 win over fifth seed Manav Mehta of Surat in the Cadet Boys’ (U-13) semis in the tournament, co-sponsored by GAIL, ONGC, GSFC, GACL and STIGA.

Vansh marks the rise of ranks; Nidhi, Kausha eye two titles

Surat’s Shlok Bajaj too made his mark as he reached the Men’s semis while giving formidable Chitrax Bhatt a run for his money in the Junior Boys’ (U-19) semis.

Despite his losses, top seed Shlok will eye the Junior Boys’ (U-17) title. He beat fourth seed Arman Shaikh of Aravalli 11-5, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8 to set up a final date with second seed Burhanuddin Malubhai of Surat who beat teammate third seed Shlok Malpani 11-9, 11-7, 11-7, 11-4.

Ahmedabad’s Kausha Bhairapure too will be eyeing two titles but she will have an indomitable Frenaz Chipia of Surat as the biggest hurdle in the Women’s final.

Men’s event will see a first-time winner this season as fourth seed Dhairya Parmar of Ahmedabad will hope to stop the dream run of unseeded Jenil Mehta of Rajkot.
