Surat’s Ibrahim Jilani Earns Spot in India’s Probable Squad for Over-60 World Cup

SURAT :  Veteran cricketer Ibrahim Jilani has brought laurels to Surat after being selected in the probable Indian squad for the Over-60 Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be held in Canada in August 2026. His selection has sparked celebrations among the city’s cricket fraternity, with sports enthusiasts hailing it as a proud moment for Surat and Gujarat.

A resident of Rander, Jilani has been named among the 16 probable players shortlisted by the Veterans Cricket India Foundation (VCI). The list, released under the signature of Over-60 Cricket Chairman Ravi Raman, features experienced cricketers from across the country.

Jilani impressed the selectors with his outstanding all-round performance during the National Veterans Cricket Tournament in Puducherry, where his consistent displays with both bat and ball earned widespread appreciation.

“His selection reflects years of dedication, discipline and passion for the game. It is a proud moment for Surat’s cricket community,” members of the local cricket fraternity said.

The final Indian squad for the World Cup will be announced after players complete fitness assessments and other selection formalities. However, Jilani’s inclusion among the top 16 has significantly strengthened his chances of representing India on the international stage.

The probable squad also includes experienced players such as U.R. Radhakrishnan, Varinder Bhumbala, Haider Ali, Sanjay Ranjan Sinha, Jason Manzila, Pawan Malik, Ashok Vasudevan, Mayank Khandwala, Darshan Singh and Viren Patel, among others. A reserve list of 14 players has also been prepared.

“This achievement will inspire many senior cricketers to continue pursuing excellence regardless of age,” cricket enthusiasts said.
