Valsad, Gujarat – The construction of the river bridge over the Daman Ganga River in Valsad district has been completed recently. This is the sixteenth river bridge finished as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor and marks the completion of all five planned river bridges in the Valsad district.

The Daman Ganga bridge is one of 25 river bridges being constructed along the 508-km-long bullet train corridor, with 21 located in Gujarat and the remaining in Maharashtra. The latest completion adds momentum to this high-priority infrastructure project, which is being developed with Japanese technical and financial assistance.

According to the National High Speed Rail Corporation, the river bridge spans a total length of 360 meters and is constructed using nine full-span girders, each measuring 40 meters. The height of the piers ranges from 19 to 29 meters, accommodating the varying riverbed levels. The bridge structure includes one circular pier with a diameter of 4 meters, one with 5 meters, and eight piers with a diameter of 5.5 meters.

Strategically located between the Boisar and Vapi bullet train stations, this bridge is situated approximately 1 kilometer from the Vapi station and 61 kilometers from the Boisar station. It adds to the series of river bridges in the region, with the Darotha River bridge already completed on the same route. In addition, other river bridges completed in the Valsad district include the Auranga and Par River bridges (both 320 meters long), the Kolak River bridge (160 meters), and the Darotha River bridge (80 meters), all contributing significantly to the high-speed rail infrastructure in the area.

“The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail alignment covers about 56 kilometers in the Valsad district, including a 4.3-kilometer stretch through the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli. This section includes the Vapi bullet train station, a 350-meter tunnel, five river bridges, and a 210-meter prestressed concrete (PSC) bridge,” said an official of the National High Speed Rail Corporation.

Originating in the Sahyadri Hills near Valveri village in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, the Daman Ganga River travels roughly 131 kilometers before emptying into the Arabian Sea. It flows through Maharashtra, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman, and is vital for drinking water, irrigation, and industrial purposes in the region. The river supports key industrial hubs like Vapi, Dadra, and Silvassa and is home to the Madhuban Dam—a major water resource that supplies water for irrigation, drinking, and hydroelectric power.

Key Features of the Daman Ganga Bridge:

Length: 360 meters

Structure: Comprises nine full-span girders, each 40 meters long

Pier Heights: Range between 19 and 29 meters

Pier Design: Includes one 4-meter circular pier, one 5-meter pier, and eight 5.5-meter piers
