Gujarat Launches AI App to Score Green Actions

GANDHINAGAR :  From planting a tree to cycling to work, Gujarat citizens can now turn everyday eco-friendly actions into a digital score. The state government has launched the AI Green Citizen Score App, a mobile platform designed to track, verify and reward citizens for participating in environmental activities.

The initiative has been developed by Gujarat Informatics Limited (GIL) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of Gujarat. It uses digital and AI-enabled features to record citizens’ environmental contributions and encourage sustainable habits.

Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia said the platform covers a wide range of green activities.

“Through the platform, citizens can participate in activities such as tree plantation, waste segregation and recycling, plastic collection, water conservation, walking, cycling, use of public transport, carpooling and community-based green initiatives,” Modhwadia said.

Eligible activities can earn users Green Points, which contribute to their overall Green Score. The app also allows users to view their activity history, verification status and points earned.

The platform uses AI-enabled features to support verification of submitted activities. Photographs and location information can be used wherever applicable.

“An AI Green Assistant also provides guidance on green activities, campaigns and Green Points,” Modhwadia added.

The app also features a leaderboard, allowing citizens to track their progress on the platform. Users can discover environmental campaigns and participate in community-based initiatives.

Bharthi, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, said the initiative aims to make environmental participation easier and more engaging.

“The initiative aims to make environmental participation simple, measurable and engaging, while encouraging citizens and communities to incorporate sustainable practices into their everyday lives,” Bharthi said.

The Green Citizen Score essentially works as a digital record of environmental participation. A citizen undertakes an eligible green activity, submits it through the app, and the activity is verified before Green Points are awarded. The points then update the user’s Green Score.

The platform covers tree plantation, waste management, water conservation, green mobility and environmental campaigns.

An official described the application as a digital “green diary” with a points system that records verified environmental actions and tracks citizens’ contributions over time.

The application is available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
