WhatsApp drops support for older OS versions every year in favour of newer updates
Almost every week, WhatsApp rolls out an update to the app with new features and bug fixes. The Meta-owned app is constantly being updated for compatibility with and adaptation to new versions of Android, iOS, and the Web. Because of this, WhatsApp drops support for older OS versions every year in favour of newer updates. Like in previous years, the platform will stop supporting older Android and iPhone models running obsolete operating systems on December 31.
“It is standard practise for us to stop supporting older operating systems and redirect those resources to newer ones in order to keep up with technological developments. To keep using WhatsApp after we end support for your OS, you will be prompted several times “, as referenced on WhatsApp’s blog.
GizChina reports that the instant messaging app will stop working on roughly 49 different smartphone models. Smartphones from various manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, Huawei, LG, and more are featured on the list.

In the event that WhatApp discontinues service for your mobile device, what should you do?
The majority of the listed phones are quite outdated and are no longer widely used. You should seriously consider an upgrade if you’re still using one of these phones. If you want the best WhatsApp experience, you should upgrade to a newer, more advanced device. Without the most recent updates, WhatsApp could be easily hacked or otherwise compromised. Therefore, updating apps on a regular basis is strongly suggested.
