USA : Warren Buffett has made his largest annual donation to date, gifting $5.3 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway stock to five charities. This marks the latest chapter in his long-standing commitment to philanthropy, which began in 2006.

Warren Buffett, the legendary investor and chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, has donated $5.3 billion worth of the company’s stock to five charitable organizations. This significant contribution, announced on Friday, is his largest annual donation since he began his philanthropic journey in 2006.

The donation comprises approximately 13 million of Berkshire’s Class B shares. A substantial portion, 9.93 million shares, is designated for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, continuing Buffett’s strong support for the foundation’s global health and education initiatives.

In addition to this, Buffett has allocated 993,035 shares to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, named in honor of his late first wife. This foundation focuses on education and abortion rights. He is also distributing 695,122 shares each to the charitable organizations led by his children: the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, the Sherwood Foundation, and the NoVo Foundation. These foundations address a wide range of issues, including agriculture, poverty alleviation, education, and social justice.

At 93 years old, Buffett remains steadfast in his commitment to give away more than 99% of his wealth, a pledge he made with the launch of the Giving Pledge initiative, which encourages billionaires to commit to significant charitable donations. Despite having already donated more than half of his Berkshire shares, Buffett’s net worth stands at $134.3 billion, making him the world’s eighth-richest person, according to Forbes magazine.

Buffett’s philanthropic efforts are as remarkable as his investment acumen. Since taking the helm at Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire Hathaway in 1965, he has transformed the conglomerate into a powerhouse with diverse interests ranging from insurance to railroads and utilities. His approach to philanthropy mirrors his investment strategy—focused, strategic, and impactful.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, one of the primary beneficiaries of Buffett’s generosity, has received billions over the years to support its work in global health, development, and education. The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation has also benefited significantly, using the funds to support education initiatives and reproductive health services.

The charitable foundations led by Buffett’s children reflect his influence and values. The Howard G. Buffett Foundation focuses on improving agriculture and food security in developing nations, the Sherwood Foundation supports social justice and education initiatives in Nebraska, and the NoVo Foundation, led by Peter Buffett, works on empowering women and girls and transforming social norms.
