Jamnagar, Gujarat — In response to intense public and religious outcry over the relocation of elephant Madhuri (also known as Mahadevi) from Kolhapur to Jamnagar, Anant Ambani’s Vantara rehabilitation centre has publicly supported the move to bring her back. The centre also announced a proposal to establish a satellite elephant rehabilitation facility in Kolhapur’s Nandani village, subject to court approval.

“We deeply respect the religious and cultural significance Madhuri holds for the Jain Matha and the people of Kolhapur,” Vantara stated in a press release. “She has been a part of spiritual and community life for decades, and we recognize the pain her absence has caused.”

The statement comes amid protests from locals and devotees who have long considered Madhuri a sacred companion at the Jain Matha. Alleging disrespect to religious sentiments, several groups had demanded her immediate return.

Vantara clarified that its involvement was strictly in compliance with judicial orders from the Supreme Court and the Bombay High Court. “We did not initiate or recommend her relocation. Our role was solely to provide veterinary care and housing under court directives,” the statement emphasized.

In a significant development, Vantara has said it fully supports any legal application made by the Jain Matha and the Maharashtra Government seeking Madhuri’s return to Kolhapur. If the court approves, the organisation has pledged full technical and veterinary assistance to ensure a safe and dignified transfer.

To further support Madhuri’s well-being upon return, Vantara has proposed to build a state-of-the-art satellite rehabilitation centre in Nandani, developed with expert input from the High Powered Committee and aligned with international animal welfare standards.

Hydrotherapy pond for joint pain relief

Large swimming area for free movement

Laser therapy room for physical rehab

Sand pits and soft mounds to ease arthritis and foot rot

Covered night shelters and open chain-free habitat

On-site 24/7 veterinary clinic with rubberized flooring

The land for this facility will be finalized in coordination with the Jain Matha and the state government, pending necessary approvals and grants.

Vantara also extended a heartfelt apology to the Jain community, stating:

“If our court-mandated role has caused pain or misunderstanding, we offer our sincere apologies. Michhami Dukkadam—we seek forgiveness for any unintentional hurt.”
