VADODARA, GUJARAT : A seemingly peaceful Sunday afternoon in Tarshali in Vadodara took a tragic turn when two members of a family residing in Nandanvan Society succumbed to poisoning, while the remaining two members are battling for their lives in critical condition.

Initial investigations point towards a deliberate act, with police suspecting Chetan Soni, the head of the household, of orchestrating a mass suicide attempt. Reports suggest that Soni laced sugarcane juice with potassium gold cyanide, a highly toxic substance. The lethal concoction was then allegedly consumed by Soni, his father, wife, and son.

While Soni and his son Akash survived the initial poisoning, a disturbing detail emerged. Soni, according to the police, attempted to take his own life again while in police custody. He was promptly rushed to the ICU and is currently undergoing intensive care.

The investigation gained momentum with a complaint filed by Manoj, Chetan Soni’s brother-in-law.  Further suspicion arose when it was discovered that Soni had cremated his father and wife without informing the police.  His initial statement to the police, claiming his wife had poisoned herself and their son Akash, was later found to be false.

Police are currently treating Chetan Soni as the prime suspect.  A thorough investigation is underway, with officers collecting samples of the sugarcane juice and the suspected poison from the Soni residence.  Additionally, CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being reviewed to gather any further evidence that might shed light on the events that transpired.

The motive behind the alleged suicide attempt remains unclear.  The surviving family members, Chetan Soni and his son Akash, are currently in critical condition, hindering efforts to gather a firsthand account of the events leading up to the tragedy.
