THE BLUNT TIMES IMPACT: Gujarat DGP transfers Olpad police inspector MB Tomar for not protecting a Dalit social activist in Surat

Surat : Following a report published in THE BLUNT TIMES, Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay transferred MB Tomar, police inspector of Olpad police station in Surat district, with immediate effect for allegedly turning a blind eye on a complaint filed by an oppressed Dalit social worker against a member of Olpad village panchayat.

The Blunt Times published a report on March 19, 2023, highlighting the state of affairs at the Olpad police station and the role of MB Tomar in protecting an Olpad village panchayat member. Nasigul alias Gani Gulam Hussain Patel, an Olpad village panchayat member, was seen in a video threatening a Dalit social activist, Govind Baraiya, with abusive language and dire consequences.

Surat rural police and the Olpad police station were accused of turning a blind eye to a complaint filed by an oppressed Dalit social worker, Govind Baraiya, an Olpad resident, against Nasigul alias Gani Gulam Hussain Patel, a ward member of the Olpad village panchayat.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Gani Patel is heard threatening Govind Baraiya with abusive language and threatening to break his legs in front of village panchayat staff. The victim had gone to the panchayat office to get some important information when Gani Patel slammed Barariya and told the staff not to entertain him when he approached the panchayat office about the work of others.

In the video, Gani used abusive language towards the Talati of the village panchayat and threatened to thrash him if he returned to the office.

Baraiya was unable to sleep the rest of the night after this incident and decided to file a complaint against Gani Patel at the Olpad police station. Baraiya filed his complaint against Gani Patel on November 11, 2022. The police, who are said to be friendly with Gani, have put the complaint on hold.

Baraiya, on the other hand, decided to seek justice in the Olpad taluka court.

“Ward member Gani Patel persecuted me in front of many people and Olpad panchayat staff,” Baraiya claimed. “I work as a Dalit social worker.” Regardless, Gani Patel verbally abused me and threatened me with dire consequences. “I am grateful to the DGP of Gujarat for acting quickly and transferring the officer out of Olpad.”

DGP Vikas Sahay has appointed AK Jadeja, a police inspector in Bharuch town, to replace MB Tomar at the Olpad police station in an order. Tomar has been relocated to Bharuch.
