Surat : Teenage worker Stuck his head in elevator, dies

Surat : A 15-year-old boy lost his life in a tragic accident at a powerloom textile unit located in Udhana, Surat. The incident occurred when Mangal, who worked as a helper at the unit, got his neck stuck in the grill section of the elevator.

Mangal Sukhbadan Singh was originally from Madhya Pradesh and had come to Surat with his uncle in search of work. After his uncle returned home, Mangal stayed with friends in Surat, residing in a small room with five other teenagers. He worked alongside his friends at the powerloom unit during the day to earn a living.

On the day of the accident, Mangal was using the elevator to go to the second floor when his neck got stuck in the grill. Unable to breathe, Mangal suffocated before his friends could pull him out of the elevator.

Mangal was immediately rushed to the New Civil Hospital in a 108 ambulance, but doctors declared him brought dead. He is survived by his parents and a sister.

Manoj, a friend of the deceased, said that Mangal was originally from Madhya Pradesh. 15 days ago, Mangal came to Surat with his uncle. Then the uncle left for home again, but Mangal stayed with friends in Surat. They are living in a small room. Mangal also used to earn his living by laboring in the powerloom unit.

The incident has left Mangal’s family and friends devastated. A police investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the importance of workplace safety, particularly in industrial settings.
