Surat : Tapi River Barrage Project Advances with State Approval for Crucial Surveys
By 2048, population in the diamond city of Surat is predicted to be 2.27 crores, which forces Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) to give the proposed conventional barrage project first priority
SURAT, GUJARAT : The much expected barrage project on the Tapi River in Surat has got a big boost with recent Gujarat government approval for important research and surveys. With this green signal, the project will be able to go into its next stage of growth signifying a major progress.
Approved surveys comprise a range of significant assessments including hydrographic, topographic, and environmental studies. The effective implementation of the project depends on an awareness of the dynamics of the river, the geography in surrounds, and possible environmental effects. These assessments are absolutely essential in delivering this essential knowledge.
By 2048, population in the diamond city of Surat is predicted to be 2.27 crores, which forces Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) to give the proposed conventional barrage project first priority. The effective completion of 76 studies required per the Part-A tender requirements will mostly determine the direction of the project. These research cover a broad spectrum of subjects, including mathematical and physical modeling as well as soil studies and flood estimates. A significant turning point, the state’s approval of these studies opens the path for the project to move into increasingly advanced phases of development.
Reviewing the plans for the bridge components connected to the barrage is responsibility of the plans Circle of the Road and Building Department. This meticulous approach ensures that the structural plans follow all necessary guidelines and requirements. Once required permits from many government agencies, including the Environmental Department and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), building is slated to start following the monsoon season on both banks of the river.
Work on the bridge linking the barrage in the Rundh area started already. About to start is the last step of design and proof-checking, which will enable major building operations.
After the bridge is completed, work on the traditional barrage will start in the Rundh and Bhatha areas in the next months. For the barrage project, the contractor has so completed both mathematical and physical model studies rather successfully. Still, given the scope and significance of the initiative, it has been decided that a reputable government organization based in Pune will conduct more research. This stage ensures that the project is meticulously examined and refined for best success in all spheres.
