Surat : Junagam’s Shivalay XI emerged victorious in the sixth edition of the Adani Gramin Cricket Tournament, defeating Lavachha XI in the final by a convincing margin of 47 runs. The two-and-a-half-month-long tournament, organized by the Adani Foundation, Hazira, witnessed enthusiastic participation from young cricketers across the Kantha (coastal) region of Hazira.

This year’s tournament saw a significant surge in participation, with a record-breaking 121 teams and over 1815 players from Olpad and Choryasi Taluka battling it out for cricketing glory. Matches were held across four grounds – Bhatlai, Hazira, Vanswa, and Motawada (Mora) – creating a vibrant atmosphere of competition and camaraderie.

Shivalay XI set the tone for the thrilling finale by posting a competitive total of 161 runs on the board, losing just eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Lavachha XI, chasing a target of 162 runs, fell short, succumbing to Shivalaya XI’s bowling attack for a score of 114 runs.

Shivalaya XI’s Prince Patel emerged as the hero of the final match, bagging both the best bowler and the coveted man of the match awards. The coveted Man of the Series trophy went to Kapil Patel of Star XI from Damka’s tank, who impressed throughout the tournament with his batting prowess.

The closing ceremony saw a shower of awards, with trophies and cash prizes presented to the best bowler, best batsman, man of the match, and man of the series. Shivalaya XI captain Rahul Patel proudly received the winner’s trophy and prize money alongside his team, while Lavachha XI captain Bhavesh Patel accepted the runner-up trophy.

The success of the Adani Gramin Cricket Tournament owes a great deal to the tireless efforts of the Adani Foundation team in Hazira. Local stalwarts like Nareshbhai Patel of Bhatlai, Rameshbhai Patel of Junagam, Bhagubhai Patel, and Bharatbhai Patel of Moragam, along with a dedicated team of young volunteers, played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth running of the tournament.

With each year witnessing a rise in participation and an atmosphere brimming with excitement and sportsmanship, the Adani Gramin Cricket Tournament has undoubtedly established itself as a premier cricketing event for budding young talents in the Kantha region. The growing popularity of the tournament is a testament to its ability to nurture cricketing talent and foster a strong sense of community spirit among the youth.
