Surat : Following the christening of the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, a fervent demand has arisen in Surat to rename the city’s airport as “Shri Narendra Modi International Airport, Surat.”

The Surat Airport Action Committee (SAAC), dedicated to enhancing air connectivity, has petitioned the Central Government to rename the airport with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name. This has come at a time when the Surat airport will cater to Dubai flight from Sunday.

The call for renaming the airport resonates with the city’s transformative development. Sanjay Ezhava, President of SAAC, underscored Surat’s meteoric rise as a paradigmatic Smart City, setting benchmarks for urban infrastructure across India. Ezhava lauded the city’s remarkable infrastructure, attributing its excellence to the progressive initiatives during PM Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat.

“Surat stands as a beacon of exemplary development. The city’s infrastructure surpasses that of several developed European and American cities. Under your leadership, Surat has attained uninterrupted 24-hour water supply, numerous flyovers, bridges ensuring seamless commuting, and uninterrupted power supply, enhancing the quality of life,” highlighted Ezhava, acknowledging the city’s remarkable growth during PM Modi’s governance.

Expressing gratitude for the substantial improvements in air connectivity, Ezhava credited PM Modi’s government for the transformation of Surat Airport. “Before 2015, Surat Airport witnessed only two movements, but your government’s efforts propelled it to 33 movements daily since August 16, 2018. The inclusion of Surat Airport in the UDAN scheme and the Customs & Immigration notified status have been pivotal,” acknowledged Ezhava, lauding the Prime Minister’s efforts.

Ezhava emphasized the upcoming Dubai-Surat International flight as a testament to PM Modi’s commitment to the city’s aspirations. “The much-awaited Dubai-Surat International flight, a long-anticipated dream for Surat residents, is on the brink of realization due to our development-friendly Prime Minister,” added Ezhava, reflecting the city’s anticipation for international flight operations from Surat Airport.
