Surat | Gujarat — In a heart-stopping incident at Surat Railway Station, a woman and her young child narrowly escaped death after slipping while trying to board a moving train. The timely bravery of a railway policeman and a passenger on the platform averted what could have been a horrific tragedy. CCTV footage of the incident, which occurred on September 20 at platform number 1, has since gone viral, leaving many shaken but grateful for the lifesaving intervention.

A Narrow Escape Caught on Camera

According to officials, the woman attempted to board a moving train with her child in her arms. As the train picked up speed, she lost her balance and slipped onto the platform. In a split second, both she and the child were dragged dangerously close to the gap between the train and the tracks. Had they slipped further, the accident could have turned fatal.

“The situation was critical. The mother and child were just inches away from falling under the moving train,” said a railway officer, describing the terrifying moment captured on CCTV.

Heroic Act of Constable Jignesh Hirjibhai

On-duty railway policeman Constable Jignesh Hirjibhai demonstrated extraordinary alertness. Without hesitation, he rushed forward, caught hold of the woman, and struggled to pull her away from the train’s momentum. At the same time, an unidentified passenger on the platform also jumped in to assist.

Together, the policeman and the passenger managed to drag the woman and her child to safety. Their quick action saved both lives within seconds of what could have been a fatal fall.

“If I had delayed even for a moment, the outcome would have been unthinkable,” Constable Jignesh said, humbly acknowledging that it was his duty to act without fear.

Relief and Appreciation Across Surat

The woman, though shaken, sustained only minor injuries. Onlookers at the platform breathed a collective sigh of relief as the mother and child were rescued. Passengers clapped and praised the bravery of Constable Jignesh and the bystander whose courage helped prevent disaster.

The Surat Railway Police and railway department officials lauded Jignesh’s heroic act. “Constable Jignesh Hirjibhai’s presence of mind and dedication to duty is commendable. He risked his own safety to save lives,” a senior railway police officer said.

Safety Warning to Passengers

Following the incident, the railway police reiterated an important safety message: never attempt to board or alight from a moving train. “Incidents like these remind us that rushing can endanger lives. Passengers must always wait until the train comes to a complete halt,” the police said in a public appeal.
